Topic: Bi Independence Day

Summary:

Our next meeting will be the evening before July 4th, the celebration of our country's independence. Sadly those of us in the LGBT community realize that not all folks enjoy the same freedoms. There are still barriers that many groups (like sexual minorities and women in the workplace, among others) face in our society today.

As we consider the true meaning of human freedom, one that includes respect for the dignity of each human person, we cannot help but ask: How can we make the ideal real? How can we make the "Dream of America" come true for all?

Join understanding friends in a safe space to share your thoughts and experiences, or just come and hear what others have to say. Questions will include:
  • Do bi folks have a responsibility to partner with the L's, the G's and the T's to work through the political system to help bring about change?

  • Are we free to take advantage of our ability to pass as straight or gay as the situation warrants, enjoy whatever privileges we choose to, and let others do the work?

  • Do we face any particular obstacles to freedom as bisexuals — either among straights or other queer folk?
Our discussion may be serious at times, but it'll be lighthearted too because, hey, it's a holiday weekend! Come share and celebrate the ways in which we bi folks can be the freest folks in the land!

If you can't make it to the meeting, feel free to join us afterward "eight-thirtyish" for dinner at:
Sammy's Noodle Shop
453 6th Avenue, by 11th Street
